PACHECA VALE DE ABRAÃO SELECTED HARVEST 2019 DOURO DOC

The 2019 viticultural year was characterized by being an atypical year in terms of climate. The occurrence of long periods of rain, especially in the months of January, February, July and September, and great climatic instability verified in the summer period, with the occurrence of thunderstorms during the months of June and July, stood out. As a consequence of the evolution of climatic conditions, the grape maturation controls carried out until the beginning of September indicated an advance of about two weeks in the vine phenology, with the grapes showing good levels of sugar, acidity and phenolic compounds, which led to the harvest to start earlier. At Quinta da Pacheca it started on the 3rd of September.

In mid-September, a new period of heavy rains began, which lasted until October. However, as the harvest started earlier, most of the Quinta's vines had already been harvested.

Pacheca Vale de Abraão Colheita Seleccionada 2014 is a wine obtained from grapes of the Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional varieties from Quinta de Vale de Abraão, from vineyards in the Pinhão River Valley and from vineyards in the Vilariça Valley.

The grapes were harvested into 25 kg boxes, after careful selection for their best state of health, and sent to the winery center where they were fully destemmed. Fermentation took place for 9 days in a 14-tonne granite lagar, with foot treading and gentle pumping over for leaching the mantle and extracting phenolic and aromatic compounds.

At the end of alcoholic fermentation, the wine was transferred to stainless steel vats where malolactic fermentation took place and later aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months.

It is a wine with a deep violet color. In the aroma it is very fruity, with evident notes of ripe black fruit, such as blueberry and blackcurrant, while being fresh with oral notes. In the mouth it is concentrated, fat, with present tannins , chocolate notes and implied freshness. Long and very persistent finish.
