Quinta da Pacheca , in collaboration with renowned architect Siza Vieira, has recently launched a new bowl that aims to transform the way wine is experienced. The piece, launched on July 13, combines tradition and modernity, offering an innovative and functional approach to the traditional wine utensil.
The bowl stands out for its ergonomic shape and functionality. With a diameter of 15 centimetres and a height of 7 centimetres, the piece is designed to enhance the wine tasting experience and ensure that it does not slip from your hands. Siza Vieira, renowned for his focus on innovation, incorporated specific spaces for the fingers, a detail that prevents the bowl from falling and losing a good wine. It also has a small corner designed to prevent the wine from running out during use. In addition to its innovative design, the bowl was produced by the company Maria Portugal Terracota, located in Porto de Mós, using 100% recycled materials and a resistant glaze.
Historically, the wine bowl was used to assess the quality of red wines, with the white ceramic allowing the observation of the coloured trails left by the wine. This ritual, which dates back to the Middle Ages, was known as ‘painting the bowl’, and offered a valuable indication of the quality of the wine. Today, using the bowl offers a new experience to younger generations, who are rediscovering the traditions of this simple but meaningful gesture.
Quinta da Pacheca sought to reinvent the centuries-old tradition of the malga, as an extension of its commitment to preserving and promoting Portuguese heritage. Paulo Pereira, a partner at the property, said that “the malga is a way of connecting people with the ancestral traditions and rich history of Portugal.”
We suggest enjoying a tasting in the bowl with the Pacheca Sousão Reserva , a wine with an intense ruby color, with great aromatic intensity of red and black berries. It is a balanced wine, with good acidity and great elegance.
For now, the bowl can be found at the Quinta da Pacheca physical store.
