PACHECA SUPERIOR RED 2021 DOURO DOC
VITICULTURAL YEAR
The 2018 wine year began with a rainy spring after a harsh winter that was later considered to be of great importance in guaranteeing soil water reserves. This was the key to the dry and hot conditions that followed during the months of June and July. During the maturation period during the month of August, day and night temperatures were milder, which allowed preserving the acidity of the grapes, obtaining a balanced must and, consequently, elegant wines.
VINEYARDS
This wine is obtained from Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional grapes from vines planted at Quinta da Pacheca that are around 40 years old.
VINIFICATION
After careful selection for their best condition, the grapes were harvested into 25 kg chests and sent to the winery where they were completely destemmed. Fermentation took place for 9 days in traditional 14-tonne granitic stone tanks with gentle stepping and pumping over for manta leaching and extraction of phenolic and aromatic compounds. At the end of alcoholic fermentation, the wine was transferred to stainless steel vats where malolactic fermentation took place. Subsequently, it aged in new and 2nd year French oak barrels for 12 months.
TASTING NOTES
Pacheca Superior Tinto has an intense young ruby color. It reveals a fruity aroma with strong notes of blackberries and plums, balanced with hints of chocolate that come from the barrels. In the mouth it shows balance with round tannins present and a long and persistent finish.
